The client

Eurofins is a global leader in laboratory testing and scientific services, known for its rigorous, data-driven approach to talent acquisition.

With a workforce of over 65,000 employees across various locations, the company has traditionally prioritised attracting top talent, with a growing focus on enhancing leadership and team development initiatives.

The challenge

Eurofins' executive search and talent acquisition teams were highly skilled professionals operating across multiple European countries.

However, the team culture was largely individualistic, with recruiters competing against each other rather than collaborating. The primary challenges included:

Boosting collaboration in a competitive environment

  • Siloed work culture

Team members were focused on their own KPIs rather than shared success, leading to inefficiencies, duplication of effort, and missed opportunities for cross-team support.
  • Limited soft skills development

The company's strong emphasis on numbers and performance lacked balance with interpersonal and leadership development, making it harder for employees to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and build trust within the team.
  • Lack of cross-team collaboration

Recruiters were hesitant to share high-value candidates across regions, leading to lost opportunities.

The solution

Eurofins partnered with Wise Humanity, a specialist in leadership and team transformation, to design and deliver a customised team accelerator workshop.

The training was designed to put employees out of their comfort zone in a structured and supportive way, ensuring they could connect on a human level beyond their professional KPIs.

The key elements of the programme included:

  • Interactive exercises

Engaging activities that helped team members open up, share personal stories, and develop new habits that cultivate deeper connections and more functional behaviours.
  • Soft skills development

A focus on communication, trust-building, and collaboration strategies, equipping participants with practical tools to navigate team dynamics more effectively.
  • Shine Your Light exercise

A powerful session that encouraged participants to recognise and articulate their strengths and contributions.
It was refreshing to see my team not just as recruiters, but as individuals who could learn from and support each other. This workshop made us rethink how we work together.
Implementation

Implementation: a hands-on approach to cultural shift

The training was delivered over one and a half days as part of a three-day company-wide meeting in Brussels. It brought together approximately 20 participants, including:

  1. Talent acquisition professionals from various European offices (France, Germany, UK, Denmark, and Switzerland).

  2. Relevant members of a research team from Poland.

  3. Senior HR professionals overseeing executive hiring.

Wise Humanity's facilitators ensured that the session was practical, interactive, and directly tied to the participants' daily work challenges. By incorporating real-world scenarios and structured role-playing, the workshop provided tangible tools that participants could immediately apply.

The results

The results: strengthening collaboration and engagement

Following the workshop, Eurofins experienced several key improvements:

  • Enhanced team cohesiveness

Employees reported stronger relationships and a newfound sense of team unity, leading to better coordination and more efficient project execution.
  • Increased willingness to share talent

Recruiters became more proactive in sharing promising candidates across markets, leading to a more strategic approach to talent placement.
  • Shift in mindset

The competitive, individualistic culture began to transition toward a more collaborative and supportive environment, with teams leveraging shared tools to enhance workflow efficiency and improve decision-making processes.
Client feedback

Client feedback: a step towards a stronger team culture

The team lead at Eurofins, who had championed the initiative, was highly satisfied with the workshop's impact. He emphasised the importance of shifting from a transactional hiring model to a talent development mindset.

While some senior executives were initially sceptical about the value of soft skills training, the tangible improvements in team dynamics demonstrated the effectiveness of the approach.
