How do you show care without sounding manipulative?

You’re Not Finished Growing
Imagine buying a strawberry ice cream cone for a beloved child in your life, a three-year-old. Imagine the grin on her face as she receives it and gives it one big lick.

Now imagine that the ice cream falls to the sidewalk with a splat; the grin turns to a deeply flushed grimace, her eyes flood with tears, and she wails in pure anguish.
You want to explain to her that she is okay, and will be okay, but no effort to console her will work, in the moment. She’s in her own little world, where there is just one central reality: ice cream on the sidewalk.
She can’t imagine the adult perspective she’ll have one day. She can’t quite grasp what it is. It’s a whole different level of consciousness, opaque to her.
Just so, as adults, we can’t imagine a broader, wiser perspective than the one we have today.
We have the illusion that we are “grown up” and see things as they really are. The next level is opaque to us.
At the same time, we know it’s there.
We are aware that there are people among us who are even more grown up, who have a higher perspective than we do. People who have a special quality of presence, a deep peace and clarity of attention that we notice as soon as we meet them. People who are not holding back, who are radiantly alive. People with a purposeful dedication that lifts everyone around them.
We’d like to have a piece of what they have, but we don’t know how to get it. We did not learn about this topic in school. And we can sense that it’s not merely a matter of additional knowledge to be learned from a book.
Like the three-year-old, we can’t imagine that the tools to gain it are inside us. We can’t seem to see them and use them.
